First in Australia: Museum-Grade Captive Breeding
Veridian Labs is proud to offer the first commercially viable, 100% captive-bred Caridina typus (Australian Amano Shrimp) available in the country. Historically, this highly robust native species has only been available via wild-caught collection lines, which often carry high stress levels, unpredictable mortality rates, and biosecurity risks.
By transitioning this amphidromous freshwater invertebrate through its complex larval stages entirely in house, we have unlocked a reliable line of clean, resilient, and laboratory-hardened specimens. Raised on our proprietary mineral blends and custom probiotic matrices, our Caridina typus arrive at your facility highly active, parasite-free, and fully adapted to captive conditions.
An Unrivalled Algae Grazer and Detritivore Native to the fast-flowing coastal streams of eastern Australia, Caridina typus is a relentless worker. They are significantly larger and more robust than ornamental dwarf shrimp, allowing them to peacefully cohabitate with a wider variety of teleost fish species in retail display tanks and home aquariums.
-
Dynamic Algae Control: Exceptional surface grazers that target stubborn algae types, keeping driftwood, rocks, and plant leaves pristine.
-
Phenotypic Plasticity: These specimens exhibit beautiful natural variation, shifting their colouration from translucent amber to deep, striated browns depending on the substrate and water chemistry.
-
Built for Longevity: Because they are born and raised in stable laboratory parameters rather than harvested from wild creeks, their transition into your holding facilities is seamless, eliminating the traditional “wild-caught” drop-off period.
Technical Data and Water Parameters
Our breeding laboratory flattens parameter spikes to produce highly adaptable livestock. For optimal long-term health and stability, maintain the following conditions:
-
Temperature Range: 22°C – 26°C
-
pH Level: 6.5 – 7.5
-
Water Parameters: Neutral to slightly soft/acidic
-
Specific Biotope: Planted Aquascapes / Fast-Flowing Clearwater Streams
Dietary Profile and Husbandry
While Caridina typus are exceptional opportunistic scavengers, their primary dietary drive is surface grazing. For optimal health, vitality, and moult success, their environment should be rich in natural biofilm or supplemented with professional grazing formulations.
-
Dietary Needs: Biofilm, microalgae, botanicals, and high-quality specialized micropellets.
-
Compatibility: Peaceful. Excellent community addition for planted tanks.
Exclusively cultivated by Veridian Labs, Australia. Certified captive bred.
